Thanks all for everyone's input. I also think landlines are becoming a non-necessity these days, although one advantage of a landline is they have power (usually) if the power grid should ever go out. I called my local landline provider, and they looked at my line and found some issues, but they said they are unable to solve them all as it is my building's telephone wiring that seems to be the issue.
