Hi Shailesh, and all,

I'd guess that there my be either an overload of the receiver or 
possibly some interference from a nearby Wi-Fi.  Has your building 
been war-chalked?

Either way, you can reduce the overload by retracting or removing the 
aerial (if there is one), or by shielding the internal aerial by 
holding some aluminum foil (or other metallic cloth) over back of the 
phone.  An old CD or DVD works, too.

BTW, you can *increase* the signal reception by holding a CD over the 
top of the phone, like a "top-hat" or an umbrella.  I've used this 
technique in a pinch, but it's guaranteed to get you some looks in 
public.
