Do you know anyone that might be calling to listen to your VM messages (without your permission, of course)? By using one of several phone number spoofing services, they could do that. The log would display your mobile number, and the VM system would think you were checking messages from your own phone. That's one reason TMO has introduced the option to require entry of a password when checking VM from your "own" number. However, the option is turned off by default (for convenience). Others can potentially listen to your VM if they really want to.
