I'm on the Centigram platform, and I am fairly certain that the option to require password is brand new in response to security concerns from spoofing. If you've been on the My TMO website, you've no doubt seen the very strong suggestions to require a VM password. Unfortunately, spoofing is very easy and cheap. I would think that TMO would eventually implement a system that authenticates that you are actually calling from your own phone (as opposed to simply reading CID), but I know there are other priorities for them at the moment.
As far as reps having access to your info when you call, that seems to depend on whether you reach an outsourced call center or one with TMO employees and equipment. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Glen Bogle Sent: Monday, June 06, 2005 1:09 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [T-Mobile-US] called myself? Only if they can spoof your CID. And it's not "recent." The feature to require 'password' to access voicemail from the handset has been there for years with the older Glenayre system as well as with the new Comverse system. As far as security one thing that is still wide open is anyone can call T-Mobile customer care and when it asks you to enter a number you can enter anyone's T-Mobile subscriber number and you can see what their minute useage is. On the old system all you had to do is press # after the initial greeting. On the new voice recognition system all you have to do is key in or say the number and you can have access to this information. It will only ask you for the last four of your SSN if you make a billing inquiry. Some phones now are "recognized" and you don't have to imput your phone number any more but this seems to be random that sometimes it works and other times not. Sometimes you may get a representative and have to give your number, SSN and name again and sometimes the fields are populated for the rep. A wholely uneven system. ------------------------ Yahoo!
