I care about that very much. I am a German living in the U.S. and travel there a lot. Perhaps I'm unlike the average user in that regard, but international roaming was the main reason I joined a carrier that was using GSM at the time here in NYC. Originally OmniPoint, then VoiceStream, now T-Mobile. Never switched carriers since I moved here from Germany. But they switched names on me.
