Sarah's nomenclature idea is at first convincing but then I see that it is
endeavouring to give BOTH the structure and the method in one title.

This in my opinion is almost always a mistaken aim in classification.. hence
the complete split between the Emery structure-based classification and
the Basel method-based one.
Hence also my rejection of Harvey's 'Split-Ply Twining' as a name; because
it tried to tell you how and what you get, in one confusing collection of
words.

I know this is all academic.. and may seem dry hair-splitting.
Also a technique often acquires a shortened name... like 'double-faced' ..
used in speech and notes, whereas a more accurate name is too
cumbersome for such use.

In any case to call the result of the 'Crockett' technique 'weft-patterned' is
surely pretty inaccurate? What you see is a warp-twined surface with fine
grooves in it, in which the weft MAY show if thick enough.

Enough,

Peter Collingwood
