Brenda, I regretfully can't offer you any solution to your issue,
because I'm having exactly the same problem when deleting messages from
my inbox. It doesn't happen every time, only intermittenly. I was just
hoping that someone can kill two peoples problems with one solution, if
at all possible.

I can open and start to read an email, but when i tap the arrow or
other key to silence speech and arrow around, thunderbird freezes,
Window Eyes quits speaking and alt-tab doesn't work. When I am finally
able to ALT-F4 to close T-bird things work again, BUT when I re-open
