Brenda, Congratulations on your victory over the Adobe Reader. I tried taking the precise steps as listed below, and for the life of me, couldn't make any kind of progress. I really don't know why the Ninite installer was successful, and not the typical solution. But I sure know how frustrating not being able to make something work that is supposed to work more or less right out of the box.

If I remember, following these instructions actually did the trick after installing the Ninite version. What do they put in that Ninite <smile>? after all, I downloaded the reader directly from the Adobe site at least three times and could get nowhere.

Enough, enough of this. Once again glad your back in the saddle with Adobe.

All fixed thanks to the info Brendon posted - Adobe is talking again with Window eyes and Avg, etc.

The fix is within Adobe XI. See instructions below.

Thank you Tech Support (esp Dave) and also Brendon for sending the solution.

Hello,

Please see instructions below. Yes, this is something in adobe Reader that
you have to disable.

1. On the Edit menu, click Preferences.
The Preferences window opens.
2. In the Categories list on the left, select Security (Enhanced).
3. In the Sandbox Protections area, clear the check box Enable Protected
Mode at start up and every other checkbox.
4. Click OK.
For more information, see the Adobe website:
http://helpx.adobe.com/reader/using/protected-mode-windows.html

Give this a try.
Thank you.

Brendon Donohue.

Sorry, I should make one correction. I was not using AVG when having my
issues with Adobe Reader. Nevertheless, you still might give it a try.
It certainly couldn't hurt.

Have you tried downloading the
Adobe Reader installer from ninite.com? I played hell with the reader
for about a week after getting my Windows 8.1 system, until people
suggested that I do this, and for some reason, it took care of this
very issue. I simply couldn't get anything but a few lines of a
document to read, couldn't move forward at all, but after installing
the reader from Ninite I was good to go.

Good luck,

Larry

good afternoon list

I just spent the afternoon working with very patient Dave from W-e Tech Support with a conflict between Window eyes 9.1, AVG 2015 and Adobe XI.

Window Eyes will NOT read the drop down menus (I think that's the right
word - File, view ect...) in adobe XI while AVG 2015 is enabled.

He said he is not aware of anyone else having this problem. Sooo,
please if you are having this issue please let tech support (and me)
know. OR if you have a solution, please let me know.

For now, I can use NVDA to read the menus although it is a pain to do,
at least it is a work around.

Thanks for any help you can give me.
Brenda
