Hi Lou,

I use Firefox and opening PDFs within the browser works fine on my Windows
10 system, and, when you finished with the PDF, Alt-LeftArrow takes you back
to the web page containing the link to read the PDF.

Hth,

Rod

I've been under the impression that people were discouraged from opening
pdf's from within the browser because it causes a crash. Someone from Adobe
is or was on this list and informed us as much. As I recall, the problem has
something to do with IE and Adobe Acrobat. It's been awhile, but I believe
the Adobe rep said the problem existed for non assistive tech users as well.
The recommendation was to set Adobe to launch itself rather than allow the
pdf to open from within the browser. I never tried with Firefox or Chrome,
so I don't know if the problem is there as well. I have gotten into the
habit of downloading the pdf with the save target as option and opening the
file by finding it in Windows Explorer, right clicking with the applications
key, and choosing the open with option.

I've lost track of any progress made with Adobe and IE. Maybe someone on the
list has current information on the status of this problem.

Lou N.

Subject: Loss of speech, consistent pattern

Hello,

Like many of you, I have been experiencing the annoying problem of sudden
speech loss and WE crashing on a fairly regular basis with W7 and WE 9.2.
Over the last few days, I have noticed one consistent action that seems to
cause the problem. When I open a PDF document from a web page and start the
process of recognizing the document-the dialog box with reading order, read
full document etc., WE always crashes and has to be restarted with
control-alt-w. I have not tried downloading PDFs before processing them
enough to know whether the problem exists there as well. WE developers,
PLEASE look into this issue. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is
experiencing decreased work productivity/efficiency because of this.

Thank you,

Jan
