Hi: I just got up and my machine was asleep over night. I quickly logged in and went to the internet, google via internet Explorer. No speech with tabbing nor the arrow keys but some with the mouse so the sound card was still active. I closed IE and went back to the desktop and it read ok. Tried IE again and nothing, this time the arrow keys and the mouse just went bing bing and the ctl-alt-w read nothing and the WE Restart command did Restart WE but still nothing. I fiddled around some with no results. Then ReBooted the computer and speech came back normally. So while your suggestion may be in play for some it was not the culprit in this case of the computer going to sleep and then finding loss of speech. I have noticed this same situation often after a sleep when trying to go into Outlook. If I go slowly it usually has not happened but going normally quickly might be related to the changes in WE after a sleep session - don't think it is the sound card in my situation because for a short time the mouse read the google page and returning to the desktop and reading continued normally. Just a heads up. Hi Dave, I'm wondering if your system is configured to go to sleep after a period of time, in which case your sound device does as well, and returning from sleep your sound device remains dormant. I recommend disabling sleep mode under Power Options and see whether your sound drops out. When this has happened, I wondered if something is not right in memory, or if some new screen, I know nothing about, is now popping up and grabbing focus. Re booting is the only fix for the time being. -- Dave <[email protected]> _______________________________________________ Any views or opinions presented in this email are solely those of the author and do not necessarily represent those of Ai Squared.
