Hi Grumpy Dave. You have every right to be grumpy. Unfortunately, there wiill always be, and have always been people who think that they can/should get what they want through demanding. I have always found, through highschool, university and then in my job, a good attitude and approach towards others will make them want to help you, but apparently, some people don't get that and never will.
