That depends on what service provider youa re connecting to if it will be turned on or not. That also depends on if you are using pop over IMap and if you have to give it a dummy address so taht you can then configure the account acording to how you have it setup to be accessed. So saying the N86 does it by default isn't all the way true at all. IE I use GMail and I have it setup to use POP but the phone set it up as IMap. I had to delete the account being wants the phone set it up as IMap it wouldn't let me change it to pop. so I had to give it a dummy address and it couldn't verify it and hten let me select what type of accoutn it was. This was true for the E66 as well and other newer phones. I see no reason why it would be any different for the E72/E75.

So saying it doesn it automatically isn't all the way true and this is most deffently true if you are not using what Nokia thinks is the standard/default.

Worth remembering if you're sending via BT Yahoo! You have to use
authenticated smtp so your username and password have to be entered in the
out going server section.

For example on my E71 I go into Messaging, then Settings. Then e-mail.
Choose your mail box and select edit.

Choose out-going e-mail.
Make sure your username and password are entered here.

Steps may be different for your phone, I've not got access to an N86 to try,
but I hope the above may give you a pointer.

Something like that Bernard. I have to save David I really was not clear
from your discription just what was going on so finding it difficult to
advise more. I was wondering if the access point was giving some problem
but it appeared that the messages were downloading OK to the phone except
for his test message. I would wonder if the test message did not arrive, if
he was at the computer and had his e-mail Outlook or whatever open. This
would account for his test e-mail not arriving as it would have gone
straight to his Outlook Inbox.

As I understood it, he did get them on the phone, it was just that Talks
was not telling him what was there.

That is an important point David that you should be aware of. If the
e-mails are on your phone, you go to your PC and download them as soon as

you reconnect your phone to the server they are gone like a flash.

Also, if your PC pulled the email down, then they won't be around for
the
phone to grab.

Well to start out! You will ntot find a Check Mail option in Talks being

the
Mail client isn't part of Talks. The mail program is part of the phone.
<smile>

You'll probably need to check your SLS/PLS setting to maybe turn them
on/off
for the Mail client. If this is set incorrectly! The Nokia EMail client
will
not be able to retrieve the EMail.

I have posted this question on a general blind computing list butt have
had
no response. I wonder if the Talks community have a suggestion.

I have just tried to set up my BT Yahoo email account on my Nokia N86.
I am connection through my wireless network at home.

The Nokia reports that the setup was successful but when I arrived at
the
Bt
yahoo inbox on the phone the mailbox was empty. I had to get my
daughter
to
confirm this as Talks did not announce this.
This was not true as the mailbox actually has 21 items in it which I
have
just downloaded to my Pc.

I also tried to send a test email from my phone to my own inbox. This
was
reported as being sent by Talks but has not been received by BT Yahoo.

I have pop3 enabled on BT yahoo.

Pressing the option key under Talks only gives the option to disconnect

or
create or
send mail.
I have not found a check mail button on talks yet..

The BT yahoo pages assume you will contacting via a dial up number
rather
than using a wireless network so it is difficult to tell what settings
are
not working. The phone appears to get into my mail account properly
with
the
right password but does not seem to be able to detect any of the
content
in
the mail boxes..

Any suggestions?

Many thanks

Regards

David Griffith
