Hello Maxim,
On Monday, August 30, 2004 you wrote:

No, no, no. When we found out that version 2.0 doesn't bring too many new
features (except for IMAP, which is of no use for me, and anyway is not
finished till now) we were told to think of a recent addictions to 1.x as of
what was to appear in 2.x, but was introduced earlier to our benefit. And we
were also promised many new things for 2.x series (customizable UI and NFS
being just two examples). This is only why many of us registered (and also
because of some sort of loyalty feeling, which is now gone).

What we see right now is that virtually nothing that was promised for 2.x is
finished (not only features introduced in 2.0, but also the ones that were
to be included in this series). Even very old bugs are still in place and we
have the new ones (serious ones!) unfixed. This is not a situation when
majority of users consider another payment justified.

You've not fulfilled what you promised for 2.x and you expect us to
re-register now only based on what you promise again? I'm sorry, but Ritlabs
are not credible anymore. And also you personally -- Stefan and Max -- you
are no longer considered credible persons by me. It turns out you only want
to lay your hands on our money and not give anything in exchange.

I'm wondering. Aren't you ashamed that you relay on work of so many people
that do product support in many languages sometimes even as volunteers? Many
people were surprised to see how well that worked, and that such a community
is possible for a fully commercial product (it is common in open-source
societies). And yet it worked for The Bat! -- even though it's a commercial
application. That was because of users' enthusiasm and trust in RIT's
wisdom. No more.

There's more. In countries like Poland, where software piracy is an obvious
thing, and a private person that has a legal copy of Windows is considered
an eccentric, it was also normal for users to always search and ask for
cracks. At the beginning also for TB!. And yet TB! was one of the first
applications that managed to plant this thought in users' minds: "cracking
is unfair". You could ask for many cracks on polish usenet, but should you
ask for a crack for TB! you would be given one bloody hell. And how did that
start? I remember that at some time people active in pl.comp.mail usenet
list had a discussion after another crack request for The Bat. During the
discussion many points were made about Stefan's and Max's good attitude,
about them being helpful and doing a great job. The conclusion was more or
less that it wouldn't be fair to them if we continued to tolerate cracking.
We just couldn't do this to Stef and Max. This was the naive beginning, over
time this personal phenomenon has started to fade and now is gone. A pity.

Sounding harsh, but that's the way it looks to me. Looking back into TB's
history I feel like something bad happened to Ritlabs sometime about 1.60
beta cycle and continues -- every new move of the company is less and less
understandable for the audience. Should RIT's management be sent back to
school?

Whatever. Regarding registration -- I shall only register when I see new
features actually introduced (and finished -- so that they are relatively
bugless). Of course this doesn't apply to completely customizable UI, since
it was promised for 2.x and I already have paid for it.

Have a good day everybody, I'm gonna have a good night right now. Let's see
what the next day brings.

;/

BTW, should anyone ask -- I've been using TB since version 0.9 (it didn't
even have charset switching, but defaulted to us-ascii or something like
that), and at the very beginning I didn't register -- I did so only around
version 1.2x or 1.3x. But I feel I have paid my debts in this field, among
others by providing unofficial support for polish users for some time (not
anymore though). So I've been around for quite a time, even though there
were plenty of people more active here, than I ever was. :P
