I bought The Bat! for:
  - it's focus on text based messages
  - it's ability to handle a large number of messages (100,000+)
  - it's speed when handling large numbers of messages

My primary desires for a mail client are:
   - stability
   - speed
   - text interface

Seconarily I want:
   - customizability (glyphs)
   - programmability (filtering system)

My wife wants:
   - stable, no errors
   - ability to read and forward HTML mails
   - she wants her software to just work.

The last version I found bug free enough for my wife was 2.04.4

If I find I am required to pay to upgrade to version 3 I will
downgrade my version to 2.04.4 and either find another email program
which will do what I wish or wait until I read in the email lists that
the basic errors have been fixed.

To sum up my position - first fix the bugs then add new features!
