However my new_icons file was a .psd file from a bad save some years ago, and it has worked like this for all those years. I have now converted it to .png and surprise,surprise the problems of alignment disappeared and I have had to edit the batskin file back to where it was. It works perfectly with both 4.0.14.2 and 4.0.14.3.
