Funny, considering my services on my cablemodem I rather like my assigned
IP. And every time I went out to a customer location instead of giving them a
dumb look when they told me they don't use DHCP I simply ran a simple perl
script which took an IP and either a netmask or CIDR notation, made some
assumptions (router on first IP, broadcast on last) and reconfigured the
ethernet port on the fly.

    myip.pl 208.171.56.25/24

Oww, owww, owwww, that hurts typing all that out! Meanwhile, as pointed
out, there are problems with DHCP, esp. when one considers the shifting IP
problem. Makes it hard to maintain access lists when people's IPs change
each time they reboot.

"Then don't have the lease expire."

Gee, having the lease not expire is kinda like NOT RUNNING DHCP IN THE
FIRST PLACE. There, I feel better.

DHCP is a lame answer to an even lamer problem. Windows needing to reboot
to reset its network configuration when it is entered manually.
