Hi Steve,

On 28 July 2000 at 07:39:25 GMT -0700 (which was 15:39 where I
live) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote and made these points on the subject
of "DEAD HORSE (was Re: Before I open a suggestion on this...)":

No problem - it was just the second time you had said so. This time
you said so with a graphic illustration - and I happen to agree with
that view. No one was offering anything new to the boiling pot but all
parties were camped in their corner elaborating and re-elaborating
reasons for and against their design theories. You were quite right
that interruptive icons are a nuisance and I wouldn't have expected
RIT to have considered it for a moment. If they ever introduced it in
a beta I'm sure it would receive so much criticism it would be done
away with very quickly, but now I digress.

The reason for calling a dead horse was that the length of the thread
had become large and unwieldy and that, although the discussion was
increasing in sophistication and (as you say) moving forward, but the
points had all been made, it was time to agree to disagree and for RIT
to choose which, if any, of the options discussed sounded a sensible
and reasonable way forward should they actually be considering a
change to that part of this version of the software or a departure
from it for V2.

This was a long conversation on a possible new feature design and it
has gone on in the main UDL. The UDL is primarily a forum for
peer-to-peer support and it is the moderator's duty to keep the flow
outside of that to an orderly proportion. Perhaps the interested
parties could continue the debate in TBBETA or TBOT (although I accept
that the debate is not, strictly speaking, Off Topic).
