Well, I'm surprised by what you're saying, Januk. Are you using the
preview message pane at all? If so, I'm surprised you never wanted to
have the pane (or the account tree as well!) temporarily switched off,
in order to view (full-screen) the list of all messages in a folder.

Right now I have 81 folders set up in The Bat! (on at least 4
hierarchichal levels). Therefore I need the full height account tree
view. But then, the other half of the screen is split in two by the
preview pane. You can see only about 20 messages or so in the message
list. Therefore I need to be hitting the CTRL+SHIFT+E shortcut about
every 90 seconds, in order to see clearly what's there in a folder.
It's terrible that the preview pane position always returns to the
default (middle of screen) predetermined by Ritlabs.

Pray what's the logic of that? What could be the *harm* of the window
position being sticky?

If there are any people out there who prefer the preview pane to cut
the right half of the main window *exactly* in the middle, as is now
the case, then *that* would simply be *these* particular users' sticky
window position, right?

But currently, you have no choice. There's only the default, and
nothing else to choose from.

Outlook Express effortlessly remembers precisely the preview pane
setting. And the preview pane setting really is essential, you (well,
I) work with it constantly. It must be embarrassing for The Bat!
whenever Outlook Express manages to do something simple, basic,
logical, that The Bat! cannot do. This here is another such case.
(Other instances would be the 100 % global keyboard shortcuts, few as
they are, in OE.)

A>> The width of the account tree view does not stick either.

JA> This one is sticky on my system.

Are we talking about the same thing? I mean the *user-modified* width
of the account tree, after you switched back to another view (let's
say, full-width preview window) and then *returned* to the full height
account tree. The frames are always back to default, in my version
(1.46, beta/6).

(Which is no excuse for not having checked out the newest beta. 8-)

A>> in the Opera browser mailer (!), this can be accomplished by a
A>> simple push of the F4 key (toggle).

JA> Remember, this is not the Opera browser mailer.

Unfortunately! I don't understand your logic here, Januk. A simple
mail client, Opera browser's addon, can accomplish *some* basic things
in a wonderful fashion, much better than The Bat. When I point this
out to you, your reply is "This is not the Opera mailer"? In other
words, you're content with the fact that the Opera mailer performs
basic mailing tasks better than The Bat!, while basking in the glory
of the knowledge that The Bat! features many important advanced
features that Opera's mailer can never have nor will it ever aspire to
incorporate them?

JA> TB is not known for the lack of keystrokes if you want to use the
JA> keyboard shortcuts.

You've got to be kidding. Have you ever laid eyes on Pegasus or
Opera's mailer? If you'd like, I can forward to this maillist the list
of astounding keyboard shortcuts (few as they are!) from Opera's
mailer -- your eyes will pop out.

JA> In the end, the program will reflect the personality and the needs
JA> of the developer(s).

Come again? I thought, the needs of *end user(s)*. We've already lost
Chuck Mattsen, and others will follow, if customers' wishes aren't
sufficiently taken into account...

JA> What you must keep in mind as you evaluate TB is, are there enough
JA> good points for you to stick around?

I'll definitely stick around, one way or another. I have officially
volunteered as the possible translator for the Slovak version of The
Bat! which isn't available yet. I'd like to earn my license that way.
My neighbour, the esteemed Czech localizer Marek Mikus (yeah, the one
responsible for the recent flurry of betas!) says that it might
possibly happen that I'd be commissioned with the task.

JA> Have you sent in an official bug report? You can post it to the
JA> TBBETA mailing list.

Not yet. The reason is, partly, that the predefined form, in the Help
| Feedback | Suggestions / Bug Report menu, requires you to supply
your registration number.

Seems as if only people who've already purchased The Bat! were
expected to send in suggestions or to report bugs. But I'll do as you
say, if that's the proper procedure. I've no idea whether anyone from
Ritlabs is monitoring our discussions (which I believe they should, or
I can volunteer to do that for them ;-))).
