Hi David,
On 28 October 2000 at 10:19:32 GMT -0700 (which was 18:19 where I
live) David Tod Sigafoos wrote and made these points on the subject
of 'Placing subjects in introductions':

No but...

DTS> AND

This is where my signature ends.

This is a cookie for amusement.

This is a standard courtesy addition to allow others to know which
version / platform is being discussed. This is recommended in the
charter.

This is a PGP signature used to verify that the message, from me, is
unadulterated and is, IMHO, essential security for the moderator of
this list.
DTS> Once again this is only opinion.
In that case it conflicts with your previously stated opinion that
"stuff" that is below the scroll line can be ignored at will.
DTS> Doesn't mean i'm nuts or stupid or anything else.
It does mean something else. It means that you are being contrary for
the sake of making a point. I was trying to point out the rules of
this list as a moderator of the list and in a context where you had
clearly been guilt of over-quoting.
DTS> As I mentioned (and it was cut out due to lack of understanding)
I am a software engineer and I discuss programming issues on various
mail forums. I resent the personal attack inherent in the "lack of
understanding" you accuse me of.
DTS> it does depend. When dealing in a programming list (AS I
DTS> MENTIONED .. DID YOU PAY ATTENTION TO THIS?) this can be very
DTS> important.
I paid no attention to it because:
a). The context is *this* list, not a programming list.
b). It was therefore irrelevant.
c). I was only quoting the text relevant to the issue.
DTS> Inclusion of only those bits you want to attack can be very
DTS> effective.
Inclusion of the only bits that are relevant can make things much
clearer in a reply. I was not attacking. I was enforcing the rules.
There are also rules against personal attacks. You are stepping very
close to the edge of these. And with the list moderator no less.
