Hi Jerry,
On 09 December 2000 at 00:58:09 -0500 (which was 05:58 where I
live) [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote and made these points:

Jan> D prompt?
No. You are dealing with the system registry, not TB here. That is in
your WINDOWS folder.
R>> Enter the following two commands:
R>> regedit /e thebatcu.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!"
R>> regedit /e thebatlm.reg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\RIT"
Jan> Substituting /d for /e?
NONONONO! /e is the command to "export". /d means nothing to the
regedit program.
R>> You will now have two files in the current directory: thebatcu.reg
R>> and thebatlm.reg. Copy these . . . to the new machine.
Jan> To anywhere on the C drive (where all programs are
Jan> going)?
You can control the destination by using this syntax:
regedit /e x:\path\thebatcu.reg "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\RIT\The Bat!"
regedit /e c:\path\thebatlm.reg "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\RIT"
where "x:\path\" could be "c:\temp" or "d:\" or anywhere else you
choose. If you don't specify a path, the .reg files will end up in the
directory logged in step (1) at the very beginning.

R>> --------------------------------------------------------------------------
Jan> But with info for a nonexistent E drive?
Huh? What E drive? If the /e has confused you then you don't need an
answer.
R>> i did move TB using a ZIP and the registry-trick and it works like
R>> a charm. only had to edit the .reg files because i put TB in a
R>> different directory than where it used to be on the old machine.
Jan> Which I assume I would have to do, too?
You are moving TB from a path on drive D on your old machine. If you
are putting TB on the same path on drive D on the new machine then,
no, you don't. If you are using a different drive or a different path
then yes, you do.
Jan> I don't know how to edit the .reg files,
Notepad.
Jan> where they might be,
Wherever you have put them. I have now explained quite clearly, I
think, how to do this.
Jan> how to get at them.
With windows explorer.
Jan> Help, please. Also, does this procedure alter my registry (at
Jan> which possibility my heart becomes faint?)
Yes it does - that's the whole point. Most of TB's intimate settings
are held in the registry. Without altering you new registry to include
these settings you're starting from scratch.
Jan> Please excuse my inexperience here. If it's any compensation, I
Jan> write very good books.
:-)
