Hello Thomas & others on TBUDL following this interesting thread,
Monday, January 15, 2001, asked regarding my saying:
DH>> Ah, the TB! insider elite.
When Marck responded with:
MDP>>> I don't have to. It is only Allie, Syafril and myself that are
MDP>>> privvy
After I asked about the need for and/or advisability for splitting
TBUDL and forming a TBTECH list in deference to ostensibly battered
newbies, visible only to a privileged few who have now consented to
partially share this information with us, or at least testify as to
their existence.
T> Would you want every subscribe/unsubscribe announced on the list?
Aren't they announced? Why do you ask? (What difference does it
make whether they are or aren't announced, or whether I wanted
them to be or not? I can't say I've given the matter much thought,
but then that hasn't been my job.
DH>> That does make a little more sense. IAC, TB! still has a way to go
DH>> if catering to those attracted to ease of use rather than power is
DH>> now the goal.
T> No goals have changed. But it is possible to use this excellent email
T> client without actually knowing the ionternal workings of perl, did
T> you know that? ;-)
Yes. Why do you ask? Do you object to my having questioned the need for
a TBTECH list?
DH>> While I'm glad that TB! is drawing more mass market attention, I
DH>> doubt that it's going to be to everyone's liking. It couldn't be,
DH>> and still retain the depth that set it apart.
T> The depth will still be there. The only change is that a heavy-traffic
T> list will be split into two lists, with different focuses, so that any
T> user has the choice to receive only the traffic he considers
T> interesting - right now, he has to download all.
That's what we're discussing, all right; and frankly, that was fully
understood by now.
DH>> I wouldn't say there are low level conversations, just repetitive
DH>> ones that in many cases stem from failing to find published info,
DH>> but that doesn't make repeating these things unnecessary or wrong.
T> And they will continue to be repeated on this list.
DH>> OTOH, while you make your living in the IT industry, I have other
DH>> responsibilities that require my attention and am now using vintage
DH>> equipment with limited storage capacity.
T> So you will be happy that you can now decide to download only half of
T> the traffic, right?
I will be happy whatever happens, thank you. I WOULD like to know,
however: Are you being helpful and supportive, somewhat
condescending or perhaps, if Marck, Allie & Syafril are the TB!
insider elite, you are the TBUDL mother hen?
DH>> That are a number of free email clients out there that work
DH>> reasonably well.
T> Right. But many people who are not interested in RegEx capabilities
T> would still like to use TB. As advanced users, we have no right to hog
T> this list with techie questions, that would be elite thinking. what is
T> wrong with giving newbies space to breath?
Let's do that. I certainly wouldn't want to hog this list. In fact,
I think I'll go off line now.
T> Anybody who wishes to, is invited to join the techie list and
T> recieve the full load of traffic.
Perfect. Happy night. (Here it's 11pm+ & I think we've now managed
to drain all the juice out of this apple).
