Robert,

There is a 30 day trial period, after which there is a reasonable fee
charged; I cannot recall how much it is.

If you want to move messages out of The Bat!, Mailbag Assistant sounds
like exactly what you want. I use it, and I'm amazed at how capable
it is. It also contains a script language, so that you can create
customized operations. In any event, Mailbag Assistant will take the
messages from TB!, either folder by folder or combining them as you
want, and then archive them in whatever organization you want. Then
you can load the archived file(s) and search. I don't believe it can
search without loading the archived messages, but I might be wrong
about that. If you wish, you can even reply out of Mailbag Assistant.
There is a Yahoo Groups discussion forum for it, although I don't know
how helpful or active it is.

JR>> There's also a program called Mailbag Assistant available @ URL
JR>> http://www.fookes.com/mailbag/ that which can import &
JR>> categorize all TB! msgs from the MAIL folder.
