At first, I too looked for an archiver. However, TB! does an excellent
job of handling my 12,000 or so archived messages. It gives me rapid
search results (less than thirty seconds for a full text search on a
600MHz machine).

For my archives, I created a new account (called Archive) that has no
transport and into which I can drag or filter messages from my main
accounts.

My archive is fairly small by TB user standards. AIUI, some users
store gigabytes of messages in TB without issue.
