Because it's not a beta.

Lots of reasons come to mind. We lately had a lot of discussion on
RITLabs numbering, particularly lettered versions. Somewhere in their
you will find most if not all of them. Have a look at the archives.

OK, the short version is: i/j fix very specific problems and are not
of interest for the general public.
