Except deleting files that the user needs to run the system. Deleting
.exe or .dll files is a popular sport among viruses.  ;-)

If that were all they do, I'd uninstall my anti-virus programm right
away. I guess the (at least) weekly updates cost me more online time
that any virus has ever used to propagate itself from my box.

Most viruses are not harmless.
