Those are both excellent suggestions. Thank you for them.

Roelof Otten > ... you could try to change your settings to leave mail
on server for 60 days ...
me > That's not practical. I can fill up the 10 MB allowed by my ISP
in less than a week.
Roelof Otten > It wasn't meant as a permanent solution ... leaving
mail on server keeps TB from downloading the same message again when
the download is aborted.
+++++
Ah, I see. For the duration of the attempt. Ta.

Roelof Otten > ... did you check whether you've got a lot of bat*.tmp
files in your temp directory? If so delete them.
+++++
Nary a one.

Roelof Otten > You've said that it's the second message that won't
download. Is that always the same message?
+++++
No, it changes after I delete the first message manually.

Roelof Otten > ... you could try ... to disable both your virus
scanner and firewall ...
+++++
Last resort. I'm not willing to do that yet. I suspect Earthlink is
the culprit, but they deny it. Since they don't support TB--in fact,
have never heard of it, it's easy for them to deny. I think they
*should* support it. Ritlabs should contact them (and all other big
ISPs), give them a complimentary copy, and educate them. They support
Eudora, after all.

Roelof Otten > ...somebody else can download your mail for you ...

Penultimate resort. Or maybe not. I have a laptop, a wireless modem,
and a friend who has DSL and a wireless router. Hmmm.

At least I can send now.
