  It may be they will migrate everyone to this crappy authentication
  system, but so far you can simply bypass this by using
  smtp.mindspring.com or just mindspring.com. One of my office mates
  just went through this same runaround (got some ominous, imposing
  e-mail from Earthlink claiming no one could send e-mail except
  through the new servers) and finally got one of the brainless tech
  support people to admit that she didn't actually have to use the
  auth server at all! She just uses smtp.mindspring.com and her e-mail
  now works fine.

  Especially since I see your account is mindspring and not earthlink
  I have to think the mindspring servers will work for you. It's at
  least worth a shot.

  I've used Earthlink as my DSL and dial-up provider for years. I
  still use just mindpsring.com" without problems.
