I'm up in Ottawa, ON, or as the marketing materials like to call it "Silicon Valley North", working for a company that makes policy management software for networks.
I've always been a computer geek (never should have sold my old C64), and have always loved learning and writing, so when I was looking to get into high-tech after getting a business degree at university, tech writing was a natural fit. I love that tech writing allows me to learn about many different things without often having to deal with the daily minutia of coding. I learned from taking a couple of C++/OOP courses that programming is not something I'd enjoy as a job, although it's useful to be able to read and understand code. I was among those who started up during the tech boom days. I started in '99 with Newbridge, a networking hardware company that was swallowed up by Alcatel before I had even been there a year. I worked there for about 5.5 years, before leaving for my current job about 18 months ago. I'm enjoying the chance to be more hands on working with this UNIX-based software after working so long on mostly (expensive, often inaccessible) hardware. Personally, I'm a sports nut, both player and spectator. I relax by playing softball and hockey, rollerblading, and lifting weights. In the summers, I work part time for the Ottawa Lynx AAA baseball team, scoring games for their online Gameday system that relays the action in real-time to their website. I'm also a movie buff and like to travel. My wife and I plan to take some time off to travel Down Under some day. _______________________________________________ Interested in Interactive 3D Documentation?
