The advantages I see are historical and reference. For example, there
are many great posts to lists that could or should be referenced.
However, the lists may be private, and the links won't let folks in
unless they join. Or the lists are public, but the context surrounding
the post is harder to find (or you have to read multiple posts to get
the 'whole' story).

Again, it depends on the wiki software. The MSHelpWiki uses TikiWiki,
and as soon as one person opens a page, anyone else who tries to open
the page receives a message.
