Some people in the community have talked about wanting a tech comm wiki, and we're considering putting one on the TCP website. * What do you think of the idea? * How/for what would you use it? * Would you use it regularly? * Would you contribute to it as well as read it? I am excited to hear your responses and other thoughts on the issue! --- I don't see anything in there about "replacing the list with a wiki", so I didn't come away with that impression at all. A wiki, by definition, is a different beast than an email list. A wiki is a collaborative tool used to generate touchstones of knowledge; a list is an interactive meeting and discussion ground with no end goal of producing a polished document. A wiki's discussions are focussed upon the articles and information posted there, but there is no such thing as an unfocused wiki. In relation to a list, a wiki could hold the gems distilled from the list, its FAQs, or other relevant material to the wiki's topic, but the wiki in no way, shape, or form, can take on the rapid-response and under-the-radar nature of an email list. Now I say all of these things not caring much for wikis, but they can have their uses. I think the more salient question is, "Would a tech writing wiki" be useful for distilling good ideas from TCP, or even more generally, from tech writing as a whole? ~Tarage _______________________________________________ Are you a Help Authoring Trainer or Consultant?
