Outstanding! Thank you for this, Donna. I was rolling my eyes and laughing
while I read this. My last manager was so old school it was ridiculous. As
a tech writer I didn't have to attend meetings and was strictly
deliverable-based, yet he insisted that I clock in at 9 and out at 6. My
commute was two hours each way (worse on Fridays), but when I told him that
I would be more than happy to start work at home at 6am, and come into the
office at 10am, he sent me a "warning" that this would be completely
unacceptable.

As for this article, I'm still confused as to how the ROWE plan can be
utilized at retail establishments:

"And the company plans to take its clockless campaign to its stores--a
high-stakes challenge that no company has tried before in a retail
environment. Next year Ressler and Thompson plan to pilot their boldest move
yet, testing ROWE in retail stores among both managers and workers. How
exactly they will do this in an environment where salespeople presumably
need to put in regular hours, they won't say. And they acknowledge it won't
be easy."

If a Best Buy store posts its hours of operation, then I should be able to
show up when they open and see employees ready to help me.
