I can't complain about my setup---I've got a Dell tower with a P4, a
gig of RAM, and many gigs of HD space (and two hard drives, too). DVD
burner, 19-inch flat panel monitor, wireless mouse and keyboard (those
are mine, though, not company issue).

I'm trying to get another monitor so I can have a dual-monitor setup,
but so far, no luck. Another thing I'd like is a laptop instead of a
tower, so I could easily work from home and take a laptop to meetings.
No luck on that one, either. Having a laptop would solve the
dual-monitor problem, but that argument hasn't flown. So far.

I got the 19-inch monitor by wandering into the IT dept one morning to
ask a question and spotting a pile of boxes. "Hey, can I have one of
those? How about one for the other tech writer?" The IT guy said,
sure, no problem. I grabbed the monitors and hauled them upstairs
right away---you can't depend on that sort of thing happening too
often! I was just in the right place at the right time for a change. I
tried the same thing to get that second monitor and was told to go get
my manager to submit papers. Darn!

My company is overall good on the equipment front, but at this time of
year budgets are a bit thin. I'll see if things change next quarter.
