Interesting question. I'll move beyond the FM tools that are sure to be
mentioned (great tip on the Shrinkwrap Utility, BTW) and start with what
I've currently got open:

-- 2xExplorer -- Think of Windows Explorer on steroids, plus faster and
friendlier, http://netez.com/2xExplorer/.
-- Maxthon -- I've been using a tabbed browser since NetCaptor debuted,
but MyIE2/Maxthon is my browser of choice today. (Amazing it took MS
until IE7 to get with the program, but that's another story). One cool
feature: You can save all open windows as a group and then reopen all
the tabs at once. Great for resuming research in a heartbeat.

-- Windows Desktop Search -- This or something similar appears to be
integrated into the new Vista, but it's very slick for digital rummaging
around our network. WDS makes it much easier to lay hands on what's been
scattered hither and yon, including graphics.
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/desktopsearch/default.mspx
-- Yankee Clipper, a free clipboard manager utility in its YC3
incarnation, far better than the infamous "Clippy" -- non-intrusive,
nice drag-and-drop support.
http://www.intelexual.com/products/index.aspx
-- ASAP Utilities -- Whenever I have to make a foray into Excel, this
does high-powered data manipulation rapidly and efficiently -- including
the ability to search for text across multiple worksheets in a workbook.
