I agree. On top of them taking everything out of the rooms, they aren't exactly careful. There is one custodian who will run a vacuum over anything that happens to be on the floor rather than pick it up. I can't begin to tell you how many pieces of cat 5 I've had to replace. He tells the teachers "I don't pick anything up". Last summer he stood there and watched student (hired as summer help) run over the power cord for a Jet Direct print server. Shorted out the power supply and the print server. The ensuing conversation was one-sided and not politically correct. I couldn't get the superintendent to take the $200 + out of their checks.
I've been trying to get the board to put me on a 12-month contract for two years because of this kind of thing. I figure if I'm here to plug everything back in, I won't have wires tied in knots, cables getting vacuumed, and a lot fewer problems at the beginning of the year. So far, they haven't wanted to part with the extra bucks. Isn't there a better way than rucking everything out in the hall every summer?? ok. sigh. I'm done. </rant> Alicia M. M.
