Boy I must have it good. The Janitors here actually work with me and try and keep everything in order. I usually don't start cleaning until the middle of July and work in the areas they have already waxed and cleaned. As always there is usually something missing like a patch cable or a mouse, but that easy to replace. Right after school I go through each classroom to make sure that the PC, monitor and any peripheral is off. You'd be surprised how many teacher just get up and walk out without even logging out of there PC. They leave there flat screen monitors on all the time and the projectors for the white boards on too. I do a spot check and take the projector remote away so they have to come to me to get it and get told to turn it off. Oh well, can't have everything. Daniel E. There is one custodian who will run a vacuum over anything that happens to be on the floor rather than pick it up. I can’t begin to tell you how many pieces of cat 5 I’ve had to replace. He tells the teachers “I don’t pick anything up”. Last summer he stood there and watched student (hired as summer help) run over the power cord for a Jet Direct print server. Shorted out the power supply and the print server. The ensuing conversation was one-sided and not politically correct. I couldn’t get the superintendent to take the $200 + out of their checks. I’ve been trying to get the board to put me on a 12-month contract for two years because of this kind of thing. I figure if I’m here to plug everything back in, I won’t have wires tied in knots, cables getting vacuumed, and a lot fewer problems at the beginning of the year. So far, they haven’t wanted to part with the extra bucks.
