guess he’s lucky the rubber handle on the vacuum doesn’t have any cracks in it.

You may want to point out to his superiors that pulling out AC cords in that
manner is also a major fire hazard.

Check lists would be good. I'm not sure I'd be able to get student helpers
hired.....but maybe. I run into headaches in trying to get the
elementary/middle school rooms connected while getting 2-8 AR ready for the
start of school. I think I need to have a meeting with admins and establish
that AR simply won't be ready until the 4th day of school or something. I don't
get class lists from admins until a week before school starts......then to get
new students added and classes setup and enrolled - ick.

I have one custodian that is destroying the floor jacks in our new building. He
won't bend over to unplug anything, he jerks it from standing level. The main
custodian who is awesome has talked until he's blue in the face......so I'm
going to go to the admins....oh well. Just grouchy for a Wednesday I guess.

Good luck getting that changed!! Maintenance folks tend to be the unmovable
wall.

We fought the same battle for years and finally conceded that we were not going
to get the maintenance practices changed so we looked for ways to deal with it.
We started by hiring student workers during the summer. They go through and
re-image/clean all the computers. They go in behind the maintenance crews and
set up and reconnect all the systems. We have been tweaking the system for a
few years now and for the past couple years have streamlined the process to
where it is no longer a problem.

At the end of the school year, we require teachers, as part of their final
check-off before they can leave for the year, to label all of their computers
with their room number, mark all cables with the port number they are plugged
in to, and disconnect them from the wall (we get about 95% compliance with
this, after we explained that this helps guarantee they get the right computers
back in their room). In August, we do check list for our student workers to
go through each room, log on to each computer, ensure it is connecting to the
network properly, in the correct subnet and has the correct image applied. The
students then sign off on the checklist and leave an inspection card for the
teacher with their name and the date the room was checked. This is the 2nd
year using this system and for two years running we have not had any issues to
speak of regarding systems not re-connected at the start of the year.

Of course, we have all the OTHER issues related to start of school and this was
particularly bad this year due to the Windows 7 implementation. I would be
happy to share our checklists if anyone is interested – just let me know
off-list.

<rant>

It's the what....4th week of school.....still dealing with problems of
everything being taken out of classrooms, staff who can't or refuse to figure
out how to plug anything in back and want everything moved and then complain
about what I get done in a day.....ie the filter was blocking the Eastern Paws
or whatever the course work is they are trying to do during school time! Isn't
there a better way than rucking everything out in the hall every summer??

ok. sigh. I'm done.
