I've given up on TV. There are several subscription services to access
the music industry's content. Movies are doing ok with services like
netflix but it can be better. The TV companies are lagging way behind.
When they give me fully digital content delivery on demand of any show I
would like to watch at any time, I will start paying them again.

Agreed have been hulu/Netflix only for almost a year. My 6 and 4 year
old still ask for more screen time that we are prepared to give them so
its not as if there is nothing to watch. Life is still good. Since this
is a VENT thread I’ll tell you what I don’t like. I miss Iron Chef
America (food network). SOA isn’t on hulu until 31 days after airing.

Even with kids it can work.

I've been cable/dish free for ~ 2 months and just use boxee on a mac
mini hooked up
to the tv. The kids get 1 show in the morning and 2 at after school,
most of which are on netflix or some dvd
ripping to the household nas.

Best thing other than saving money is now they play, color, read books,
and use their imagination.

Best move we ever made.

I pay a fixed fee for Internet from the local cable company and I have
an antenna.

I pay for Netflix and I love Hulu.

That has been good enough for me - I am at the point in my life where
between 4pm Friday afternoon leaving work and 8am this morning returning
I watched about 22 minutes of "TV"

When children come I know that will change, and I'll watch a movie this
week, some news, and another episode of something, but for now, I get by
just fine. Netflix/Hulu is like the world's largest DVR and cost
$9/month.

I have thought about Hulu Plus but not justified it yet...

The thing driving me most crazy is the endless loop about how “how the
Dish CEO was young sports were on TV for free”. Hey jerk, when you were
young, ALL TV was free! Thus you would have no job, so SHUT UP!
Furthermore, I find it insulting that they want to give me free channels
to make up for what I am missing, but they don’t bother to give me
channels that I don’t ALREADY PAY FOR!!!

I get a little cranky(er) when I can’t watch hockey!

And how fast did you call Dish Network?

I suppose you are out in the country and cable is not an option.
