When I switched to Verizon FiOS I was disappointed with the bandwidth
I was getting. It turned out my little Linksys router was the
bottleneck. I removed it and found the box provided by FiOS was fast
enough to keep up with the full bandwidth I was paying for (which
makes sense!)

I was surprised that the Verizon router let me log in, set up
statically assigned DHCP leases, etc. It even has a lot of firewall
and application proxying support.

It has WiFi built in, so I've been using it as my base-station. To
extend the WiFi to a part of the house without good coverage I ran an
ethernet cable and use a WiFi repeater, not a full router.
