Sigh. Yes, of course. Silly of me.
So it's an 8 week - 1 day schedule, and you do a 0 instead of
the last 7. That's worse, really, with 5 backup sets average to
do a restore of a disk (or possibly even a directory).
Am I remembering correctly that you're really paying per byte,
not per tape? Because per *tape* you almost certainly aren't
winning as much as you're losing. I think I would start pulling
some data, walking the file system once a day to get
filename/size/mod date data, and then crunching that to see how
much difference scheduling makes. (Plus, as long as I was walking
everything anyway, I'd pull atime data and contemplate the
possibility of sending people a list saying "These are files you
haven't looked at in 6 months, are you sure
you still need them?")
