Sorry, I read poorly. The case studies that have already been posted look very good. I hope that they give you the information you need. Do you think that your business will be looking for an ROI-like jsutification, or are they looking for case studios that demonstrate some other indirect value of "best practices" such as CM system? Knowing what "the business" values may tell you which cases studies will get the best traction. If they are money guys, then ROI. If you are supporting internal customers then cases showing better service (faster response to their requests), etc may carry more weight. I've never been asked for specific ROI, but I have been asked about staffing levels, "quality of service", etc. I don't have any case studios, but at the place I introduced cfengine, we routinely had a host to sysadmin ratio of up to 100:1. That's pretty old, as that was from 1993-2003. At the current job, we have about a 500:1 ratio, and we have had a 750:1 ratio in the past. Without CM tools, we'd be sunk, and for us a combination of security requirements and staffing level restrictions made justifying CM systems pretty easy. And the ability to re-install 200-300 servers from scratch in a 2 hour maintenance window was taken as a measure of the ability to be responsive. _______________________________________________ Tech mailing list [email protected] http://lopsa.org/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/tech This list provided by the League of Professional System Administrators http://lopsa.org/
