Solaris has some great technology in it (like ZFS), but many of the
tools are decidedly stuck in the past.  Logging in to a Solaris system
feels archaic when compared to Linux or other modern open source *nix
systems.  This could easily account for this approach (and it does
have some validity, because many of the changes in modern OSes could
be seen a "fluff" from a certain point of view).
