Hi

I strongly recommend that you configure RollBack properly, don't just accept
the defaults and hope for the best, as some others have. I have spoken to a
lot of people who have tried this programme out. They gave up on it because
they said it ate their drive space. But they just didn't bother to configure
it properly. One person said to me that I had actually tried to trick them by
recommending this software, and that I was clearly not to be trusted. Well,
that's their decision. But I can assure you that if you configure it properly,
RollBack RX is probably the best utility I've seen for Windows designed to keep
your systems safe from error.

A little tip. You may sometimes be tempted to defragment your hard drive
whilst RollBack is running. Don't! You will most likely end up with corrupted
everything if you try that. Instead, use the "Snapshot Defragmenter" built
into RollBack. It's probably the simplest way of accomplishing the task, and
works well.

I'm not particularly impressed by the after-sales support offered by Horizon
Data Systems, it has to be said. This is one of those companies which require
that you go through their silly support portal and often they don't even bother
to respond to you at all. However, whilst everything's working properly for
you, I strongly advise that, if you plan to buy this software and keep using
it, you get yourself into the habit of creating a snapshot just before you
install any major software. Assuming you plan to keep that software installed,
you might like to update your baseline snapshot to the point just after you
installed it. That way, Rollback deletes any other snapshots and just retains
the one you had when your system was working well for you.

You see what I mean by proper configuration and proper use? Some people
condemn this software because they simply don't understand how it works. So
they assume, (wrongly), that the software is flawed. Oh, just one more thing.
Turn off "System Restore" from within the control panel. You don't need it if
you're running RollBack and it is pointless wasting drive space on it.

I've tried Image for Windows in the past.
Nice program but slow compared to RollBack RX.
Taking a snapshot with RollBack RX takes only a few seconds.
I don't remember exactly the time Image for Windows use but it's for sure much
slower.
Image for Windows is as the name implies a imaging tool and RollBack RX is not
so I Guess that is the reason why Image for Windows is slower.

I have installed RollBack RX now and I'm impressed so far.
Lightning fast when I tell it to make a snapshot.
I have not tried restore yet though.

I'm using a SSD disk so I don't care about defragmenting it anyway <smile>

not sure whether I answered this or not.

Rollback RX is fully accessible. It news to be configured properly, the
default configuration is absolutely crazy in my opinion.

I personally have mine set to only take snapshots when I specify. That been
the case I do a snapshot before I install any software. That way I find it
works fine for me. I'm also going to install "Image for Windows" when I get
around to it. That is another accessible backup utility. The major issue with
RollBack RX is that you cannot use disk defragmentation software with it
running. It's too much hassle to disable it totally, so I just don't bother.

Hi:

I'm looking for a powerful backup solution for Windows.

I know that you Gordon are using RollBack RX from Horizon Datasys and I have
read about it.
It looks very interesting.

I understand that it takes a snapshot (bit-level) which is very nice and what
I'm looking for.
But I have a few questions:

I assume RollBack RX is fully accessible?
Both installation, configuration and the restore process?

What if ones system is not booting or just showing the BSOD?

Thanks
