I've never thought about using a secondary account, I use Gmail because it is free and accessible. If using an option such as Mac access were put on the table, I might consider it. I've pretty much got accounts with all of the major providers, Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN, as well as an iCloud, I don't use half of those, but that's my choice. Also, despite this… Providers such as Google don't just offer Gmail, but other services as well. These include, but are not limited to, Google maps, Google wallet, android, etc.
