I would like to re-iterate a good recommendation of Werner Icking
(independent of the operation system):
Do not use a musixtex format, but use plain TeX and \input musixtex
and those macro sets that are required for typesetting the piece
one works on.
On modern computer there is no measurable change in speed.
Some musixtex.ins load all musix macro sets, even for the
one for compatibility with musictex. We had in the past several
cases where this caused problems.
