Hallo, this is a (desperate) newbie's message...
My operating system is Linux (SuSE Linux 6.2).
Since Werner Icking's untimely death I have interrupted my attempts to
work
with MusiXTeX. He had explained certain fundamentals and strongly
recommended
to me to use PMX. My former version of MusiXTeX, however, (as provided
by SuSE)
worked fine but was too old for using PMX with it. Some days ago now, I
deinstalled it and downloaded the files
musixtex-T101-1.i386.rpm
musixtex-musixflx-T101-1.i386.rpm
pmx-2.20-1.i586.rpm
from the gmd archive in the web. I installed all three packages via
"rpm -i <... .rpm>"
First result: On entering
pmxab
I get the message
BUG IN DYNAMIC LINKER ld.so: dl-version.c: 210: _dl_check_map_versions:
Assertion `needed != ((void *)0)' failed!
(The same happens with " pmxab barzant " which is suggested in Don
Simon's
text.)
Second result: Trying to musixtex an existing file (which worked fine
under my
old version of MusiXTeX) now (to see if this is at least remained
possible), on
entering
musixtex <filename>
I get the message
This is TeX, Version 3.14159 (Web2C 7.3.1)
(Fatal format file error; I'm stymied)
(and no .mx1-file is produced). End of the story. Horror. Modernization
seems
to have ended in a disaster. Instead of approaching PMX, I seem to have
lost
even the possibilities of the original MusiXTeX.
Can anybody help me? I need not say I am all but a professional
programmer - I
think this is obvious.
Regards, Hartmut Laue
