er, it's been quiet since this morning, as seen from here.

have you done the job according to the guidelines in

http://www.tex.ac.uk/cgi-bin/texfaq2html?label=instpackages+wherefiles

if so, have you ensured that dvips is reading the .map file for the
fonts (using the appropriate -P command)?

what you describe sounds like the fonts not being written into the
postscript file; this is certainly doable if either of the above is
missed.

i'm assuming you've got a recent enough ghostscript (>=6.01, but
preferably not 7.00 which mucks up gsftopk), but that would merely
mean that the dvipdf script would make grotty output, not dvips too.
