Mainly, yes. The guidelines doesn't say much about font installation.
However, I have not worked with a local texmf-tree. dvips seem to use
the .pfb files, but the lack of a local texmf tree might have impact on
this?

I use dvips -Ppdf. Status output from dvips says it uses the .pfb files.

I had GhostScript 5.50, but upgraded to 6.51. However, the same error
persists. The musixtex fonts are not used in the resulting PDF.
I must be missing something. I feel like a fool... :-(
