I strongly encourage you to learn PMX, since it is far more easy to code
music with it than with MusiXTeX. Read the excellent documentation of
Cornelius Noack:

Here is how to code the first measure of Bittendes Kind with PMX. It is
a good question, since it needs some difficult tricks for a beginner.
