Get a T-42, or T60 with WXP Professional and a DVD RW drive, buy a 120 GB,
160GB, or 250 GB Fujitsu, Seagate, or Western Digital hard drive (or perhaps
a 400 or 500)
Upgrade Photoshop Essentials to Photoshop Elements 7.0 from ClickCoolDeals
Use your current Office 2000 Professional
Forget about Firewire
Be sure you get a copy of the Windows XP Professional disks...

There are no proprietary hard drives except the external ones... and don't
get one anyway... back your stuff up on Flash or DVD disk... always ALWAYS
backup your data

You will Thus be happy for another 15 years.

It will be a long time before you advance out of the middle ages, and I
guarantee you will not like what you see in Vista or Windows 7... and you
don't need either.

Your kids will be required to take care of you after that, and they will
tell you what you can have and what you need, as well as what you don't need
