Almost sounds like some type of hardware problem, such as a failing disk, that prevents Windows from loading any further (i.e. bad sectors where important Windows files are). Does the disk make any odd noises like ticking or clicking when this blank screen comes up? Does the drive activity light stay on? First thing I'd suggest is booting with alternate media, like a Linux live CD, and copying off any important data from the drive to an external drive or USB stick. Then try to run some disk analysis tools like scandisk or whatever you can get from a rescue/recovery tools CD (see BartPE - http://www.nu2.nu/pebuilder/). Also, using a Linux live CD will rule out other hardware issues like RAM problems or overheating. If the live CD boots and runs Linux stuff just fine then you either have a hard drive problem or a Windows problem. If it is not hardware but rather a Windows failure then you may have to try to recover your drive from an earlier backup or reinstall Windows.
Good luck! I know this stuff is no fun. Rob On Mon, 01 Mar 2010 15:22 -0500, "richard" <[email protected]> wrote: > Didn't work.
